2 movies in 3 days!

Finally managed to catch 2 of the shows I’ve been wanting to watch in the cinemas after a long time of not visiting the theatres, and I am happy that they were two very good movies. 😀

The Lucky One

So on Friday, I managed to catch The Lucky One with SM since it was her off day and we were both romantic movie junkies.

I liked the rhythm of the movie, it was slow, yet not draggy. I enjoyed the picturesque setting of the movie, with many adorable dogs that made me smile throughout the movie. You could see how much Zac Efron had outgrown his childish demeanor from the High School Musical Series, and settling to be a struggled veteran from the Marines.

Don’t expect too much from the movie, just sit back and relax, you’ll find yourself enjoying the movie a lot more than you thought you would have. (:

Verdict: 3.5/5

And the second movie caught was the blockbuster of the year that I had been DYING to catch since Captain America: The First Avenger concluded last year! Guessed it yet? 😀

The Avengers! 😀

After waiting for almost 9 months, the Avengers movie’s finally released and indeed it was thrilling and exciting with the Avengers assembling for this movie! If you have watched Iron Man 1/2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America, you will find the movie coming to a full circle, and linking post-credits scenes of the movies stated. Not gonna spoil the movie here, go catch it yourself!

What’s really great about the movie was really about the humour weaved in the scenes that will send you laughing out really loud in the cinema, and also cute eye candy too ^^

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye 😀

Best part of it, I managed to catch in IMAX 3D.

Now, many people would ask, why would I pay 2 to 3 times more than the usual price of a ticket just for the IMAX 3D effects. I’m going to explain it here!

1) The clarity of the movie

When you watch movies in 2D, more than often, you can see the cinematic film roll effect on the screen, with a little yellowing and all, with black spots appearing. This does not happen in IMAX 3D

2) ‘In-Your-Face’ 3D Effects

When you watch Digital 3D movies, the items in 3D merely pop a little, some people often feel that the effect was barely noticeable. However, in IMAX 3D, it does feel as if you are in the scene, and also you can feel that the characters really POP out of the screen.

Try it someday. Really. For a good action flick. I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Verdict: 4/5!

Prolly gonna catch the movie again soon, and looking forward to the IMAX 3D movies that are going to be released soon! (:

Crashing Mom and Dad’s anniversary date!

27th Jan was my mom and dad’s 21st wedding anniversary, and they invited me to go along on a date with them because I had nothing to do on a Friday night. (sad eh? LOL.)

We went to watch We Not Naughty together (my treat as a little gift for them hehheh) after we decided that there was nothing better to do in Yishun haha.

Truth is, it was better than what I had expected from the typical Jack Neo movie, albeit the lousy editing. Front part of the movie was more or less confusing, but the underlying themes were brought out towards the end of the movie and it was pretty typical and funny! However I didn’t enjoy having Daniel Chan trying to speak in English, it sounded too unnatural. Loved the little boy who acted as Ah Bao too, he was too adorable to miss!

All in all, it is a pretty okay movie, suitable for the family and good laughs as well 😀 Do catch it if you’re looking for something for the whole family!

Verdict: 3/5

P.S: Happy 21st Wedding Anniversary to Mom and Dad! ❤

It’s the New Year!

Happy New Year everybody! 😀

Spent countdown with Salvo at Marina Square (yet again) and watched the brilliant fireworks light up the sky! Somehow it is always a tradition and no matter what we do, it is always the company that matters ❤

Met up with R for Mission Impossible 4 in IMAX, silly me thought that it was supposed to be IMAX 3D, only to realise that IMAX also have 2D films. In actual fact, IMAX really does look better and clearer than usual films and it was a good thing that I didn’t waste my money on purchasing the IMAX tickets 😛

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is the 4th Installation of the Mission Impossible series, and Tom Cruise had undergone a huge transformation since the last film, from dedicated lover, to an unkempt and brooding agent. The team of Benji, Jane and Brandt with Ethan Hunt was slightly mismatched, and truth to be told, I really enjoyed the movie.

It was so exciting that I couldn’t stop bobbing with excitement throughout the movie and exclaimed super loudly during the exciting moments! If you’re an action movie junkie, I think you’d enjoy the action sequence in this movie! The background of the movie was also stunning and it is really a great start to the year! 😀

Verdict: 4/5

And we proceeded to Wild Honey for dinner, yes we had breakfast for dinner 😀

Loved how quiet it was at the Scotts Square outlet, I guess it’s because more people knew of the outlet at Mandarin Gallery.

Heh it was an easy choice for me since I kinda knew what I want! Eggs are a must hehe ^^

R ordered an Iced Caramel Latte, and me, I had a Chilean Rose Hip Organic Tea. Loved the tea, cleared the palate nicely with its fragrant aftertaste, R complained that his latte was too sweet and had too little milk. Heh, that’s why I always stick to Starbucks 😛

Iced Caramel Latte ($6.00++)

Chilean Rose Hip Organic Tea ($6.00++)

And our orders cameeee!

Califonian Breakfast ($18.00++)

English Breakfast ($22.00++)

Guess who ordered the larger portion? Hiakhiak^^

Anyway, the califonian was like a huge omelette laid over a crispy toast, fried with capsicums and mushrooms. Not to my liking since I don’t like capsicums. :/

Loved the English, even though the portion was so huge! Scrambled eggs, sauteed potatoes and mushrooms, with back bacon and pork sausage, Dad’s baked beans and bread, it was indeed a hearty meal and I couldn’t finish it on my own! However it was pretty salty but the eggs balanced it pretty well.

I really want to come back again! 😀 and perhaps try the other breakfast? Yumyum!

Verdict: 4/5

一泡而红

Caught this movie with the bestie and her family and my sis!

I guess at the end of the movie, what we really felt was that this was a just-for-laughs movie that left people feeling good, and enjoying the impressive cameo cast in the movie.

Michelle’s Malaysian accent was rather close enough to the actual ones, but I have to say I was deeply impressed by Enlai’s accent! I guess he was a tad overshadowed by Michelle, but he was worth taking a look at!

And for people like me who like to look at cute guys, yes Alien Huang (Xiaogui) was a good enough eye candy as we see how dedicated he is to Michelle’s character, Ah Kiao in the movie.

I was just a little disappointed as the love story between Ah Kiao and Ah Seng could be developed a little further and better, instead of the slipshod ending that made me feel somewhat unsettled as it doesn’t close the movie well enough.

Looking for a good laugh? This movie is for you! (:

Verdict: 3/5

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1

If I hadn’t been watching it since Twilight premiered, I would never have bothered watching this movie. Somehow the only motivating factor in making me go watch the movie, was to see how ridiculous it would turn out as a movie.

It was awkward to see how awkward Bella was as a Cullen. It was weird to not have Jacob stripping to show off his 6 packs except for the 1.5 seconds in the movie. I guess the only way that made this movie a little more value for money were the funny moments intertwined during the wedding and the honeymoon.

Don’t bother watching it if you have things better to do.

Verdict: 1.5/5

那些年,我们一起追的女孩

Heard so much about the hype this movie made, and I had my reservations. After all, we had seen how much success Monga and Cape No. 7 had made in Taiwan, but failed to kick up a storm in other countries as it was more relatable to the Taiwanese.

So watching it with lower expectations than what I made out to be, I was in for a treat.

The pace of the movie was reasonably good, by carefully detailing the phrases of growth by the protagonists, as well as carving out outstanding personalities in the film. The love story of Ke-Teng and Shen Jia Yi was subtle yet sweet, and it filled the movie with many touching, hilarious, warm and beautiful moments.

The director also brilliantly weaved in the brotherhood among the guys that would definitely bring back recollections of our youths on how we used to hang out with our closest buddies. Despite going on their separate ways, they still remained tight towards the end.

This movie was based on the true story of the Director, Giddens Ko, himself and it is interesting to see his memory projected on that screen.

I guess towards the very end, every girl would have hoped to have a Ke-Teng for herself, just like how I felt at the end of the movie.

Go catch it if you haven’t, definitely not a film to be missed!

Verdict: 4/5

P.S: Don’t forget the Kleenex! (:
